Pam & Garry's Great Adventures!

…and now on to the Kenai Peninsula

We traveled from Palmer to Anchorage, where we got an oil change and did a little grocery shopping, then started to make our way down the Kenai Peninsula. The scenery from Palmer to Anchorage is beautiful, as is most of what we have seen so far!

This is what a lot of the last part of the Alaska Highway is like, a rollercoaster, while trying to avoid potholes at the same time. They say when the lines start to get wavy, you better slow down!

We stayed in Bird Creek Campground for a couple of nights, and hiked the Falls Creek Trail, which was 3 miles straight uphill on a very steep mountain and then a worse 3 miles straight down! The hike was beautiful though, with lots of wildflowers and a breeze to keep us cool.

…and to top it off, at the very top, we saw a momma black bear with two cubs who were wrestling and playing. Doesn’t get much cuter than that. We saw some Dahl sheep way up high across the ravine as well. We did, however, decide it was probably best to turn around at that point, so as not to annoy the momma bear! If you look closely, you can see one of the cubs in the bottom left corner watching mom. (Sorry, not the best picture, but better than we expected it to be actually.)

We have settled for the next few days at Kenai Lake, at Quartz Creek Campground, where we did a little kayaking today !

Goodnight!
